Baseplate

A large, thin, flexible sheet of studs on which models are built.

Also: Base plate

A baseplate is much thinner than an ordinary plate, and nothing can be attached underneath it. Baseplates serve as the ground for buildings and layouts. Older ones were printed with roads or moulded with ramps and pits, and those are now collected in their own right.
